Pimp My Smoothie! Our Fave Blender Additions

Pimp My Smoothie! Our Fave Blender Additions

There’s just something about a smoothie, right? It’s a great way to work tons of fruits and veggies into your diet that takes minimal time to put together. It’s a perfect on-the-go breakfast or afternoon snack. And it’s even pretty trendy.

If the beautiful, layered, decorated smoothies of Instagram have you feeling down about your own smoothie game, don’t worry. We’re not advising you spend an hour getting those perfect parfait-like layers in your glass, but we do have some super easy ways to pimp your smoothie. Throw these in your blender and take your next blended beverage up a notch.

Chia seeds

Want your smoothie to keep you fuller longer? Add a handful of chia seeds. These tiny seeds have tons of fiber, plus omega-3s and antioxidants. They’re heart healthy and can even help minimize inflammation in your body.

Spirulina

Wow Instagram — or at least your coworkers — by showing off your beautiful, vibrant blue smoothie. Spirulina doesn’t just make your drink prettier, though. It’s a nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory antioxidant. It can help your body maintain a healthy blood pressure and healthy cholesterol levels, too.

MCT oil

Need to be on point for a big presentation later today? Add MCT oil for a mental boost. Your body can easily break down these medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), making them fast and ready fuel for your brain. In fact, MCT is so brain-beneficial that it’s even linked to a lowered risk for Alzheimer’s disease.

Flax seeds

Much like chia seeds, flax seeds are rich in fiber and omega-3s. These little seeds contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 that’s linked to increased heart health and lowered risk of stroke. They can also keep you full, level out your blood sugar, and lower your blood pressure and bad cholesterol levels.

ICONIC protein

All of these smoothie-pimping ingredients add a serious health boost, but they’re not very high on the flavor spectrum. But if you’re looking to make your smoothie more scrumptious, we wanted to pass on a little tip we’ve been using. Pick your favorite ICONIC drink and use it as the base for your smoothie. You’ll get 20 grams of clean, complete protein plus a major flavor boost.

Step up your smoothie. You deserve it.
